George Stevens meets Vasquez Rocks

What a great picture! George Stevens is one of my favorite directors. Here he is sitting in one of my favorite places. This photo is from the archives of LIFE magazine and says it's from the set of "Giant". I think most of that was filmed in Texas but it's not unusual for a production to grab extra shots closer to the studios. 

If all Stevens ever did was direct "Shane" he would've had my vote. But to think he has "Gunga Din", "Giant", "A Place in the Sun", and "Penny Serenade", (don't laugh...I like this movie) under his directors belt! One thing for sure...Vasquez Rocks keeps good company.
