Not as easy as I thought...

This little sculpture had gone through some big changes before ending up here. I started sculpting it in 2008 without a clear idea about how big it should be or whether or not it needed a base or a name plate. It started at almost twice the size it is now. It was as big as an up-turned salad bowl. I burned through a lot of silicon and casting urethane before I realized it was too big for the average desk, (and too expensive!). I finally ended up with a size that felt right to me.

After showing it around I discovered a real problem. It seems that there are 'some' people who don't know what Vasquez Rocks is. Imagine that. They would stare, saying nothing, while I moved it around to try and catch the right light. I would have to drop hints about Captain Kirk and lizard men. Eventually I'd get an "oooohhhhh...that's what that is".  For the sake of those less culturally informed I thought I'd better put the name on it. Of course there are a lot of folks who don't know what it is with the name on it either. Safe to say they aren't the market I'm after.
